American Promotional Events is recalling approximately (36,100) units of their TNT Red, White and Blue Smoke fireworks product.

The fireworks can explode unexpectedly after being lit, posing burn and injury hazards to consumers.

Newmar Corporation has recalled (210) 2012-2015 King Aire and Essex Motorhomes.
On certain motorhomes, the retaining ring on the starter shaft may break, causing overheating of the starter and the risk of a fire.

Changes Coming for Florida’s Building Code?

There’s a bill currently sitting on Gov. Rick Scott’s desk (HB 1021) that, if signed, will affect the how building codes are adopted.  It’s not clear at this point how fire safety will be affected in the future.  We will, however, keep an eye on the codes as they are updated.

Florida has currently adopted the International Code Council’s  Florida Building Code, 5th edition (2014), and the National Fire Protection Association’s Florida Fire Prevention Code, 5th Edition (2014).

 

Fire Related Vehicle Recalls

The following manufacturers have recalled vehicles for fire related problems.

Columbia Northwest, Inc. has recalled (40) 2017 and 2018 Aliner Ascape trailers.  The LP gas bottle trays may be attached to the frames with the wrong fasteners, which could become loose from the trailer during travel.  This could lead to loose connections and a fire or explosion.

Here’s what we know now (11am EST):

At just before 1am (London Time) this morning, a fire broke out on the 4th floor of a public housing tower in North Kensington, London, England.  The 24 -story Grenfell Tower, originally built in 1974, has approximately 120 individual apartment style units.  The tower underwent a $11,000,000 (8.7 million pound) refurbishment, which was completed in May of 2016.  The refurbishment did not include the  installation of a fire sprinkler system.
